About 15 years ago, the author visited Atlanta, Georgia, with their children who were 11, 8, and 5 years old. They wanted to teach their children gratitude by helping them understand the struggles of those less fortunate. They stayed at the Omni Hotel and decided to walk to the MLK Center. It was a hot August morning after rain, and during the walk, they crossed from a wealthy area to a part of town where homeless people were present. While feeling uncomfortable due to their own menstrual cycle, the author noticed a homeless woman under a bridge and felt compelled to help her with basic needs related to menstruation. After returning home to Arkansas, the author pondered how to address this issue but felt overwhelmed by the idea of making a difference alone. They moved to Minnesota, where concerns about homeless women’s needs in winter resurfaced. After moving to Georgia in 2015, the author turned to God for guidance when faced with unemployment. Realizing they had time to serve, they founded One Touch Charities to help those in need. They collected thousands of hygiene products during a birthday celebration and seek to change lives "One Touch at a time. " Will you help us change lives One Touch at a time?
Parties can be as casual as gathering a few family and friends or coworkers, to as formal as dinner events. Packing parties are ideal activities for monthly Church Congregations, Youth or Senior groups. The goal is the same – to provide an awareness for the plight of homeless women and the impact homelessness can have on their self-esteem.
